2d6 Internal Affairs Mk. V: Beermachine

Yesterday our club hosted a doubles event. The purpose was to do something else than what we usually do. With most members being highly competitive we tend to play 75p steamroller almost exclusively. Hosting a doubles event with random teams and some house rules to spice it up was the perfect excuse to shake things up.

The house rules for the event were fairly straight-forward: Everything which counts as in-faction counts as in-faction for your ally as well. Multiple casters follow the rules outlined in Steamroller (same as Coven for that matter) and a single assassination means it's game over. We were playing 50 points with 75 minute deathclocks.

As the name of the tournament, Beermachine, implies, we all met up to have a good time. However, "having a good time" and "doing something different" don't mean I expected people to bring out their fluff bunnies. I know from past experience that my club mates prefer to try and break the system. As such I expected some brutal combinations. Originally I was looking to play Stryker3 here but I couldn't finish painting him nor the choices I wanted in time so I decided a couple of weeks ago that I'd bring Haley1 instead. An event like this is a good opportunity to learn a new caster and I've hardly fielded Haley1 at all. Besides, her skill set should be amazing for a doubles event. I got lucky enough to pair up with a Severius1 shooty list!

:: Game 1 ::

A pretty good match for my list. Eye of Menoth on the Stormwall is amazing, bringing it to MAT7, RAT7 and increased power on all attacks. Choir as well makes it pretty ridiculous. The combined amount of firepower we had was pretty awesome as well. My main concern was having 2 frail casters and perhaps not enough melee punch.

The first game saw us face another incredibly strong pairing: Butcher1 and Lylyth3. Haha, wow. That is quite something. Their lists were both fairly optimal with Lylyth bringing the Bolter, Naga and Typhon. Butcher opted for a string of heavies, including 2 Devastators because ARM23 is a thing.

We were playing Entrenched and our opponents won the roll-off. They thought about their choice long and hard but decided to go first despite giving us a huge forest to hide behind in doing so. I probably would've made the same choice as our firepower getting up the table can be disastrous, not to mention getting off Temporal Barrier quickly. Our opponents set up with Khador mostly towards our zone and Legion towards their own. Not fearing SPD4 jacks taking our zone under Barrier we weighted our heavy hitters and firepower on the left flank.

Butcher casts Iron Flesh on Typhon. Lylyth puts up Battle Host.

Haley goes up with Barrier, making sure not to be seen. Severius keeps back. Stormwall is carelessly positioned just outside of 3" from Haley. Idrians mini-feat and spread out in front of the 'wall (Typhon was their prey).

Our opponents decide to try and kill the Stormwall with Butcher's feat and Typhon going on with Kiss from Blackfrost Shard. The math doesn't add up as I even had Rhoven's buddies nearby which could've dealt with additional hits from secondary models but poor dice made it just terrible and the 'wall easily survived.

In return Haley feats and the Idrians make a mockery of the Typhon. With 2 shots per member due to Blitz and Prey it was just no chance. Last turn the Choir sang Passage, however now it was time for Battle. We took out Ruin and a Juggernaut. Amazing feat turn! Having 3 pow 18 shots from the Stormwall was brutal, effectively RAT9 as well because of Eye and Barrier.

Khador tries to push Devastators out left, Lylyth scores a point.

We figure that if we take out Naga our casters can slowly move towards the zone and start scoring without fear of being assassinated. To do this the Stormwall needs to put itself in front of a Devastator, that can't be helped.

Butcher sends in a Devastator with Fury which does a number on the 'wall. Arlan has done his best repairing it all game but it's clear that it's unlikely to last a whole lot longer. We kill the Devastator in return and their objective while moving Severius into our own zone, covered in spells, shield guards and what not.

Khador and Legion try and clear up the table but they are out of models to contest with. We are both very low on time, our 4 minutes to their 40 seconds in the end. Lylyth has to go for a crazy run but she fails. With that, the game is over as we move to 5 CP.

:: Game 2 ::

The frailty of our casters would prove to be the central issue in our second game as we faced Vayl2 and Caine2 in the Pit. Fortunately for us their lists were lacking a couple of key models, Caine's Stormwall not having a Junior to shield it for example and Vayl having neither Seraph nor Bolt Thrower. Again we lost the roll-off but our opponents wanted to choose side to get a forest to hide behind.

This is a very explosive matchup and our goal here is to ensure we pick off what we can at a distance and use the scenario to force them ahead into a favourable alpha. To keep the enemy 'wall away the Idrians chose it as their prey target, making scenario even harder for them. Turn 1 I run up Finn behind an obstruction on the right flank, forcing our opponents to either spend a bit of effort getting him down or letting him have a dominating position for the next turn.

Caine does take out Finn and their forces advance, but they are very, very aggressive.

It's time to launch the alpha! In our opening turn Haley put up Shield on herself and Severius Defender's Ward to prevent Trick Shot assassinations. This turn we were all set up to deliver the pain for sure. TL;DR Haley feats, we shoot the crap out of everything. The Hellmouth dies, the Stormwall dies, an Archangel takes a real beating and a ton of infantry die. Severius feats to prevent Vayl helping out in the counter-punch.

Caine has to get a lot of work done personally but there are too many things for him to deal with. He ends up on his flag with Bullet Dodger and 2 focus. An Angelius moves in the way so the 'wall can't throw anything on him.

We keep pushing the advantage and take a scenario lead. The attrition game is virtually over at this point. Our forces have suffered negligible losses whereas our opponents hardly have anything left.

Caine gets an angle on Haley and goes for the last, ditch assassination run. I am DEF20 ARM17 with 3 focus camped. Vayl feats to remove the shield guards at least but it's not enough by far. Caine fails and with that, the game is over.

:: Game 3 ::

With a 2-0 record we were suddenly in the finals! Facing us was our hardest matchup yet: Severius2 with melee jacks and Father Lucant on Incursion. That list has an incredible number of shield guards, a DEF-bonus and 2 very solid feats against our lists. To add insult to injury we lost the roll-off yet again and went second. Luckily for us our opponents decided to have a very segregated battle line with Protectorate on the left and Convergence on the right. This allowed us to put Haley across from the Protectorate forces to get the Barrier up ASAP and concentrate our hitting power towards the Convergence flank. The idea was to open a scenario angle and force them into an unfavourable fight of attrition.

Our opponents run up. Lucant puts up Deflection.

As with our last game the Idrians put up prey on the colossal. We sent them up to take pot shots on the Convergence infantry. Together with the Hunter we managed to kill one. Haley charged into a pre-measured position which was safe to get up Barrier on the Axiom and all of the Protectorate heavies. Stormwall ran up, as did the Reckoner. We were fairly happy with our positions here.

We were a little careless in the reposition move of the Idrians, allowing the Convergence infantry to charge us under Lucant's feat. We only lost 2, luckily, Defender's Ward saving the other 2 being targeted. The power of Barrier was evident as the left flank, composed entirely of Protectorate jacks, ground almost to a halt with SPD2.

We couldn't commit under Lucant's feat so we opted to bide our time, make sure we contested the scenario and try and deal with the infantry in our midst. This all worked out well and Haley even got off a Scramble to disrupt the lead Protectorate heavy. Not even being able to run with SPD2? Yes thank you!

Blessing of Vengeance is pulled in by the PA and pummeled to death. Nothing else important happens.

It's finally go time. We both feat and send our heavy hitters in. The Prime Axiom dies, the Inverter dies, a Templar dies, a ton of support dies and the second templar gets disrupted by Scramble. We also score 2 points.

Our opponents don't immediately give up on the attrition game but we'e slowly pulling ahead. Eventually it boils down to Severius2 having to try and assassinate Haley. I'm camping 2 or so I think and he has to cast Awareness to see her. It boils down to hitting a hard 8 followed up by a 16+ boosted...

...the assassination fails and we win the game!

Tournament Victory to the Protectorate of Cygnar!

:: Evaluation ::

That was a blast of a tournament. We had 3 great games which all boiled down to our opponents trying long shot assassination runs. As a Cygnar player this is nothing new to me but it always creates a tense atmosphere in the very final stages of the game.

Our team had an absolutely amazing amount of firepower. The Stormwall with Severius1 and Choir was a beast on a whole other level, believe me. The Idrians benefited a lot from Haley1. I never did cast Deadeye but between Barrier (which I just call "massive nerf" because Haley4) and Blitz, they got so much work done.

We saw a ton of solid pairings throughout the tournament and despite people bringing their best lists I think everyone had a great time. Lots of beer as well.

A lot of the in-faction restrictions become a lot clearer when you play in an environment like this. Among the opponents we did not play against we had pairs like Wurmwood + Vlad1 and Haley2 + Ossrum. The moves those pairs can pull off...

I'll be putting Haley1 on the shelf for the foreseeable future now. With ClogCon up in about a month it's game time now and full on focus with Haley2 + Haley3. Perhaps the occasional game with Stryker3. In any case I look forward to the next doubles event as well and I'll certainly field something else. Stryker2 maybe?

Battle Report #320: Haley3 vs Absylonia2

:: Prologue ::

A Legion caster I've been curious about how Haley3 plays into is Absylonia2. I keep hearing stories from my Legion-playing friends of how she tends to solve a lot of the matchups they otherwise struggle with. Today I got the chance to play against her and was happy to be able to field Haley3!

The Forsaken - PC: 4
Strider Deathstalker - PC: 4
Hellmouth - Hellmouth & 3 Tentacles: 6

:: Pre-Battle Thoughts & Deployment ::

The scenario was Take and Hold and I went first. I deployed symmetrically so as to respond to his deployment.

:: Game ::

With the Hellmouth on the left I wanted to put the pressure on ASAP. I run a Grenadier behind the obstacle in the middle so he can't pull me in and the second Grenadier runs onto the hill. They are both crammed with Trenchers. Prime casts Tactical Supremacy on Trenchers because I might need cloudwall top of 2 to deny Abby alpha hunter. Lances swing left. I intend to flank with them if needed. I take care to keep them out of pull range.

A tentacle kills a Trencher, beasts run up and Raeks start flanking.

Past assigns 3 focus to Grenadiers, Future assigns 1. Prime upkeeps Supremacy. Junior kills the tentacle engaging my front-most Grenadier and they both blast the Hellmouth, taking it out. Trenchers cloud up (1 was revived), back off and make sure to have Grenadiers covered. With the left flank ignored I send the Storm Lances back again for counter-charge positions. If he doesn't want to provide me with targets I can just keep shooting after all! Besides, scenario is about to go live as well and while I have a strong position to go for it my opponent most certainly does not.

Absylonia tries to push up with her beasts. The leftmost Carnivean is placed by the Seraph so that it can see my Grenadier behind the central obstruction. It assaults and cripples its movement but nothing else. DEF18 is a thing! The Seraph tried to shoot Trenchers but failed. The Deathstalker got 1 and the rest of the beasts followed suit.

Ragman puts down Death Field, Past + Thorn + Trenchers kill Carnivean and Raek. I jam up in front of Prime to ensure nothing can get close to her. Charger + some Trenchers shoot Seraph and the Lances finish it off. The Grenadiers take out the Carnivean at the back with shooting.

Having removed 3 heavies for no loss as well as a Raek and the Deathstalker, my opponent sees no opening here at all and calls the game.

Victory to the Swans!

:: Evaluation ::

This matchup felt a lot easier than I had anticipated. The lack of Spell Martyrs made it impossible for Abby to proc Alpha Hunter, but would it really have mattered? The problem here it feels like is that her amazing alpha has nothing to target, really. The front line is made up exclusively of expendable models and the heavy hitters are too far back, with or without +2 SPD.

I was happy with how I managed to keep the Lances, Ironclad and Thorn in relevant positions here yet behind where the action happened. The Lances in particular managed to stay relevant throughout the game and I didn't commit them out on a flank where it's often so hard to get work out of them.

The Echos are amazing here since Absylonia literally has no good answers to them. On top of my inherent attrition advantage they probably enable scenario plays as well. Between Repudiate and Force Hammer Abby needs to be careful to stay alive as well.

Haley3 keeps impressing me. She also shows how solid she is vs Legion in general. Sure some of their casters are problematic for her but this was a big relief in my book.

Battle Report #319: Haley1 vs Iron Mother

The second and last game of the day was against Convergence.

 - Squire [5]
Journeyman Warcaster [4]

 - Assimilator [16]
 - Prime Axiom [38]
 - Corollary [6]
Optifex Directive [4]
Algorithmic Dispersion Optifex [2]
Attunement Servitors [4]

:: Pre-Battle Thoughts & Deployment ::

Same map and scenario as last game and I went first. This time I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted to do. I didn't both deploying symmetrically because I wanted my opponent to skew. In this matchup I think it's hard for Convergence to cover the width of the scenario so by forcing him to counter a skew of mine the opposite flank might open a scenario angle.

:: Game ::

I put up 3 lances behind the central wall and put Shield on them. Stormwall runs right and I set up solos for T3 scenario openings.

My opponent feats right off the bat to kill 2 Lances and leave the third behind the wall on 1 box.

3 Stormwall shots and 4 hunters shots all averaging 7-8 boxes should be around 55-60 boxes. I figure that with a Lance charging as well it should be possible to kill 2 Assimilators. I feat and go for it but sadly the dice don't come up in my favour and only a single Assimilator dies (I hardly even scratch the second).

The last Lances are cleared out but no other damage is inflicted.

The Lances being dead is a pain, but Convergence did pay for it in terms of positioning and I now have the opening on the right flank. Arlan isn't as far up as I'd have hoped he would be at this point in time but the GMCA is kind of without a job now so he runs to the flag. Haley puts up Barrier and I try to kill an Assimilator with my shooting but it survives on 2 boxes.

I forget that Barrier is -2 SPD when the Assimilators are planning their moves and thus they charge one Hunter each. The left Hunter is down to 4 boxes or so (right arm + cortex) but the left is missed by both attacks since they have -2 to attack rolls from the fence. The Prime Axiom moves up 3" and spawns a bomb bot to try and kill the GMCA. He fails and I move to 2-0.

I can easily dodge the Prime Axiom with my Stormwall and kill the right Assimilator + disrupt the left. I have a very solid scenario angle as well so my opponent concedes the game. It's getting late and we want to go home, besides it really does look poor for Convergence given the current state of the game. I'll move to 3-0 this turn and he can't keep contesting the right flank without committing the Prime Axiom, which opens up the left flag.

Victory to the Swans!

:: Evaluation ::

This feels like an interesting matchup. The shooting and the nature of the various threat ranges here makes it hard for anyone to really establish control I think. Cygnar likely gets the alpha but Convergence can possibly soak up a lot of it and still hit back really hard.

The Lances moving up aggressively T1 made my opponent feat. I'm not sure that's the thing you want to do here because you aren't using that amazing +3 to hit any of the Hunters, which I believe will be problematic in the long run. Without boosts to ARM those 2 Hunters will keep chipping away at the Convergence jacks all game and with Temporal Barrier the Axiom can forget about doing a lot of useful stuff in melee.

Line Breaker is often a scenario which is dead because you have to cross so much space to get to the flags. A shooty list vs shooty list matchup makes it even more dead and in this game I think I would've won on attrition anyway. I must say though that I've won on Line Breaker many times with Haley2 and Caine2 so I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be. The games today however show how dead it can be, but at the end of the day I'm not sure it's that much worse than e.g. Take and Hold.

Battle Report #318: Haley1 vs Issyria

:: Prologue ::

Next weekend I have a fun, doubles tournament coming up. I intend to play Haley1 so I need to field her a couple of games to have an idea of what models I want to bring.

:: Lists ::

Cygnar:
(Haley 1) Captain Victoria Haley [+28]
 - Stormwall [39]
 - Squire [5]
Journeyman Warcaster [4]
 - Hunter [11]
 - Hunter [11]
Gun Mage Captain Adept [5]
Captain Arlan Strangewayes [4]
Storm Lances (max) [20]
Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord [4]
Opponent:
Issyria, Sibyl of Dawn - WJ: +29
- Hyperion - PC: 36 (Battlegroup Points Used: 29)
- Phoenix - PC: 18
Arcanist Mechanik - PC: 2
Arcanist Mechanik - PC: 2
Elara, Tyro of the Third Chamber - PC: 4
- Discordia - PC: 18
Lanyssa Ryssyl, Nyss Sorceress - PC: 3
Dawnguard Invictors - Leader & 9 Grunts: 16
- Dawnguard Invictor Officer & Standard - Officer & Standard: 4
- Soulless Escort - PC: 1

:: Pre-Battle Thoughts & Deployment ::

The scenario today was Line Breaker. I got to move first. In a matchup between gun lines it's hard to get an angle out of this scenario so the idea was to set up for attrition.

:: Game ::

I run stuff up, taking care to be out of the Invictors' CRA threat range. Shield up on Lances and 'wall.

The reply is a cautious advance. Phoenix is placed in front of Discordia.

I mess up a bit. I think Discordia is the jack in front for some reason since she was proxied. The TL;DR is that I decide to go for a feat alpha on what I think is Discordia and by the time I realize it's Phoenix there's too much to backtrack and we just play it from there. Phoenix dies. Lances chill.

Issyria casts velocity for 2, lands Blinding Light on Stormwall and moves 6" back. Discordia kills GMCA (which is game-breaking here, really) and moves back. Hyperion shoots 'wall.

I try and shoot Discordia up as much as I can but it's not impressive, unfortunately. Lances still chill.

Issyria feats and move to take out Hunters. One loses the cortex, the other has the damage spread out too much to matter. Hyperion shoots the Stormwall for great justice.

My last attempt to win this game is to kill Discordia, charge Hyperion so that he's forced to hit me across the wall and kill Lanyssa. I also have a lot of decent assault shots with the Lances. Haley puts up Barrier as per usual and the Stormwall goes in. It's unfortunately miserable as I roll poor for damage, miss an attack (needing 4+) and fail to kill Lanyssa. Hunters then fail to kill the few boxes Disco has left. Lances get a few Invictors but I fear it is of no importance.

Lanyssa lands Hunter's Mark on Stormwall, Hyperion charges and kills it. The game is effectively over and I concede.

Sadly, a Loss to the Swans.

:: Evaluation ::

Losing the GMCA early is a big deal here and we probably should have reset. Putting him in threat range of Discordia without being able to kill said Discordia is so big here. At least I learned that lesson! This is so crucial because Shadow Fire means Issyria has to be really careful.

In the deployment phase I committed Lances too soon, same for Stormwall. I should've deployed symmetrically so I could have had the Lances run up to the wall on the left side and had the Stormwall go right for example. The way this played out it was too easy for my opponent to simply counter-deploy me, which he did perfectly.

I considered pushing the Lances sooner but even with Arcane Shield the Invictors will do a real number on them under Issyria's feat. I should perhaps have gone for the Trench though as the loss of the GMCA early means it is hard for me really apply pressure on the table.

A good game and a lot of things for me to ponder. Issyria sure is a trial by fire for Haley1 but it was about time I got to field her in Mk. 3. Playing uphill often reveals weaknesses and mistakes better.

Battle Report #317: Haley3 vs Lylyth3

:: Pre-Battle Thoughts & Deployment ::

We were playing The Pit and I went first. Basically I was aiming to get Prime behind a piece of cover and play around the denied assassination this helps provide me. I set up the army symmetrically and intended to respond to his positioning.

:: Game ::

With the Grenadiers firmly opposite the Archangel I was good to advance. Distortion is cast but I have no use for Supremacy in this matchup.

Lylyth kills the two Lances on my right flank. In hindsight I should probably have sent them all over on my left flank. Wind Wall is cast. The Archangel takes care to stay outside of 16" from the Grenadiers. Typhon runs up aggressively.

With the big distances and no scenario angles I feel like I'm at a loss here. What do I do? Pushing up doing nothing feels like a bad play. In the end I find an opening on Typhon: Feat, Force Hammer into Lylyth, follow up with Future and lastly charge with 2 Trenchers. I fail to kill him unfortunately (I later checked OddsMachine which put it at 61%) but I'm now committed. The Grenadiers try and land lucky scatters on Blackfrost's but the boosted damage rolls aren't high enough.

Lylyth needs to get a lot of work done and feats. I lose 7 Trenchers, one Grenadier and the Ironclad. All in all this isn't half bad, especially considering how much he has to commit positioning-wise to get this done.

My main objective this turn is to kill Typhon + Archangel. I reckon the first will go down to Future and Thorn while the latter will likely go down to Lances + Grenadier + Charger with help from Ragman.

It all works out in the end and I even have some left over shots to pump into the Bolt Thrower. It ends up surviving on but a single box, Spirit intact.

Lylyth has lost the attrition game, her CPs aren't high enough and thus it's down to Legion's favourite win condition: Assassination. She needs some crazy dice to make this happen. Lady luck doesn't offer the necessary help and with that, the game is over.

Victory to the Swans!

:: Evaluation ::

I struggle to truly understand this matchup. It feels so bad when I play it but whenever I look at pictures afterwards it doesn't seem half as bad. I guess it boils down a lot to not really understanding Haley3 properly.

Getting Prime behind an obstruction is obviously big in this matchup, however most of the maps I've played in Mk. 3 enable this somehow. Using jacks to block off some angles might be necessary though.

The Archangel struggles in this matchup because it is so vulnerable. I'd be eager to see how a non-Gargantuan Lylyth list performs here. Perhaps I get the chance soon.

Battle Report #316: Haley2 vs Issyria

:: Prologue ::

I build a lot of Retribution lists with a couple of friends and try and help them with improving their lists and game. This time around we found an Issyria list we really liked and we decided to have a slow game where we discuss a lot of the openings, fears, ideas and angles openly for both sides so as to better learn the matchup. An interesting approach which I highly recommend!

:: Lists ::

Major Victoria Haley - WJ: +25

Dawnguard Invictors - Leader & 9 Grunts: 16
- Dawnguard Invictor Officer & Standard - Officer & Standard: 4
- Soulless Escort - PC: 1

:: Pre-Battle Thoughts & Deployment ::

Same scenario and map as in the previous games, I moev first. The thing about this matchup is that Issyria has devastating long-ranged shooting but she is prone to being blocked out on scenario quite frankly, which is Haley's edge for sure. I wanted to spread out to maximize this advantage.

:: Game ::

Stuff runs. Tk on Clad, Deflection, TA on wall. Thorn on cover, both flanks threatened in terms of scenario angles.

Issyria advances cautiously.

I spend about forever considering what to do. I find no good angles for an attrition alpha, I can't take a ranged fight and I can't let him have Hyperion charging my Stormwall. I eventually find a pretty sweet angle for scenario where I can feat on his entire army basically and guarantee 1 point scored, 2 if he doesn't want to lose a heavy. The Stormwall shoots Phoenix but I roll miserably.

The Phoenix is the sacrificial lamb and moves up on the left. Hyperion decides to not only contest middle but also move far enough up so that ancillary hits the Stormwall in melee. Balsy move. I go to 1-0.

Now, with Hyperion that far up I can get both the Ironclad, Stormwall and Firely all on full focus with Death Field into him. I can't -not- take this chance. Issyria was in an exposed position though so in a tournament setting I kill her 9 times out of 10 or so (power strike shenanigans. We rolled it out and she died). This does affect the game a lot as her specific placement is pretty important. In any case I played for the Hyperion attrition instead and we just let her be. The big beast goes down and Phoenix uses Admonition as I charge the Ironclad past it to move closer to Haley. Hyperion dies before the Stormwall spends his last focus so I disrupt Phoenix. Lances charge it as well and it survives on a few boxes.

Issyria finds an angle where she can feat + blinding light Haley, ancillary Discordia and have 3 Invictors mini-feat + shoot her. This requires the Phoenix to kill a Lance which it does despite being disrupted and the opening is clear. Haley unfortunately does go down and I lose the game.

Sadly, a Loss to the Swans.

:: Evaluation ::

An interesting game which showcases the various strengths of these two lists. The Hyperion play is a mistake. I'm not sure what I do if I don't alpha it. To be fair I'm not sure going for the alpha on it is the right play even because I can move to 3 on scenario. How fast can it get work done before it has to walk away to contest?

The eventual assassination which gets Haley is in part because I don't check the angles but also in part because we don't take the time to reset a little after I could've killed Issyria. The specific positions here matter a lot. In any case it's a mistake to move the Hyperion to allow me such a hard counter for it so the entire Retribution T2 should probably have been different. All that being said sometimes it's good just to play things out. Issyria found the angle here and made the most of it, taking down Haley to secure the game! Her ability to put amazing amounts of firepower out is a real thing with a setup like this and Haley does have a tendency to die, unfortunately. For all her power, she is very squishy and loves to spend her focus!

Battle Report #315: Haley2 vs Magnus2

:: Prologue ::

Having played the Kingmaker's and been pretty impressed by its abilities I was eager to bring out the big guns. I helped my opponent tweak his list a bit to get in the Boomies and get more free stuff, as well as a Buccaneer which I think is amazing for Magnus2. Off we went!

THEME: The Kingmaker's Army

:: Pre-Battle Thoughts & Deployment ::

The scenario was Incursion and I went first. Easy plan: Get -far- up the field and force the issue.

:: Game ::

I run stuff up. Don't you love doing that T1?

Trenchers move up and cloud up in return with Steelheads on the right flank.

In a game of control feat vs control feat it can feel like a game of chicken to feat first. However when you can get an amazing alpha, it's not really something to worry about. The Trenchers were so close I could get a ton of impact hits here, the Stormwall could charge in and take out Orin, I could neutralize the scenario, be safe from ambushing Howlers. In short: It was a huge opening. I took it. Lances and Firefly with TA made a mockery of his infantry, leaving but a handful alive, and it was looking good!

Magnus tried to counter-feat, catching Haley. He moved up and was knocked down by the Buccaneer.

I sent Haley as far back as I could (as the picture above shows) and disabled 3 heavies with disruption x2 (Thorn + pod) and the Ironclad on full focus + free charge.

Following this Magnus nearly found a flying assassination hail mary angle. Because he was knocked down in the previous turn he could be slammed + thrown now and then Boomies could move in to negate KD and he could charge Haley. He was -just- out of range (seriously this flying jank thing is stupid beyond belief) and he had no way to play attrition what-so-ever so the game was effectively over.

Victory to the Swans!

:: Evaluation ::

Haley2 definitely felt good here. Magnus might need a different list setup but it was really good to get a game in with Haley2 again -and- play against Kingmaker's feeling I was in control.

Thorn ended up way too far out on the flank. Apart from this I was happy with my execution here. I managed to present and find all the angles I needed and denied him an opening to effectively strike back. Very satisfied with that!
