Battle Report #189: Sloan vs Kromac2

Time for some games again! Today I played vs Kromac2 twice before finishing up vs Vyros2. For the first 2 games I wanted to see if I could play Sloan's positioning style better.

:: Pre-Battle Thoughts & Deployment ::

The scenario was Line Breaker and Circle went first. I thought about my experiences with Line Breaker previously and decided I would go for a central deployment with Sloan flanked by Fireflies on both sides. I put the Defenders diagonally opposite his main drops and Hunters directly across. Lances on both flanks.

:: Game ::

Taking care to stay out of Defender threat ranges, Circle advances.

Hunters start pounding a Warpwolf on the right flank. Left Lances move to contest middle. Right Lances stay back to clear anti-jams.

The Satyr grabs the central fence, Ghetorix swings around the forest. The Stones are put down to prevent Storm Lances from getting in.

I feat and remove the Satyr plus most of the Warpwolf to the left.

Looking for openings my opponent finds none and concedes the game. He wasted his feat as he didn't gain an opening for neither assassination nor scenario from it so he would be forced to advance into Lances and all my shooting in the open, without his feat, to even get a shot at scenario in the next turn again. A perfectly valid conclusion in my opinion which ensured we had time for another game.

Victory to the Swans!

:: Evaluation ::

I did make one mental note of the fact that my Defenders should've been directly across his main drops with the Hunters on the diagonal, not the other way around. Because of hyper aggressive, where I need my Lances and where I can effectively anti-jam without limiting myself those angles would have been way better.

The GMCA found a good position from which he could aim and fire Flares onto heavies behind the fence. If he hits it's really good. In general just landing Shadow Fire on medium-to-high DEF heavies is great. I am starting to appreciate this little guy now!

Circle's problem here was a series of indecisive moves. Not taking advantage of the central fence as well as having Ghetorix wrap around the central forest just cost my opponent too much time. I think Kromac2 has the combination of speed, hitting power and durability to force a scenario opening on Sloan. We discussed and explored this further in the rematch...
